5 Day
Soul Care Path
You don't need to change everything at once. Small, consistent pauses can transform your life.

Day 1
Jesus and the Practice of Withdrawal
Your Divine Permission Slip for Rest
Today's Scripture:
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." — Mark 1:35
In a world that celebrates constant productivity, let's remember that Jesus himself regularly practiced withdrawal. The Son of God who had the most important mission in history consistently stepped away from the demands of ministry to be alone with the Father.
This wasn't laziness. This wasn't selfishness. This was essential spiritual practice.
Look carefully at the context of this verse. The previous evening, Jesus had healed many people. The whole town had gathered at his door. His ministry was exploding with "success" by any measure. And yet, before dawn, he withdrew to pray.
Your 2-Minute Practice for Today:
Find a quiet spot. Set a timer for just 2 minutes. Close your eyes and slowly repeat this breath prayer:
Breathing in: "Jesus withdrew"
Breathing out: "So can I"
Notice how your body feels as you give yourself this small moment of sacred pause. There's no right way to feel, but just acknowledge how you are feeling.
Tomorrow:
We'll explore how to create margins in an overflowing life. Until then, may you sense God's presence in your moments of withdrawal today.
Day 2
Creating Margins in an Overflowing Life
Small Spaces, Sacred Places
Yesterday we reflected on Jesus's practice of withdrawal. Today, let's explore how to create small pockets of sacred space in your already full life.
Today's Scripture:
"She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made."
— Luke 10:39-40
The story of Mary and Martha resonates deeply with many of us who feel the constant pull of responsibilities. Martha was doing important work. Hospitality was (and still is) sacred in their culture.
Yet Jesus gently redirected her priorities: "Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
The beautiful truth? Mary created margin by making a choice. She didn't leave town or shirk all responsibility. She simply chose, in that moment, to prioritize presence with Jesus.
Your Practical Tip for Today:
Identify one small margin you can create today. Perhaps it's:
• The first 5 minutes after you park your car before entering work
• A silent moment with your coffee before opening emails
• A brief pause before responding to a request
• A minute of prayer before entering a meeting
Reflective Question:
What might change if you viewed these small margins not as "wasted time" but as sacred appointments with God?
Remember, you don't need to dramatically restructure your entire schedule today. Mary chose the better portion in the midst of a busy household. You can too.
Looking forward to connecting tomorrow as we explore your "Holy Permission Slip."
Day 3
Holy Permission Slip
God's Signature on Your Rest
Over the past two days, we've looked at Jesus's example of withdrawal and how to create small margins in your day. Today, we want to address something we hear from so many Black women professionals: the deep-seated guilt about prioritizing rest.
Today's Scripture:
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God."
— Exodus 20:8-10
Did you catch that? Rest isn't merely suggested—it's commanded. It's one of the Ten Commandments, right alongside "do not murder" and "do not steal." Yet somehow, we've been conditioned to believe that constant productivity is godly while rest is self-indulgent.
The truth? God created rest before the fall. Before sin entered the world. Rest isn't a response to our brokenness, it's part of our original design.
Your Holy Permission Slip:
As a daughter of the Most High God, you are hereby granted divine permission to:
• Say no without explanation
• Rest without productivity
• Set boundaries without guilt
• Honor your limits as an act of worship
Contemplative Practice for Today:
Take a blank index card or small piece of paper. Write "My Holy Permission Slip" at the top. Below that, write one form of rest you need most right now. Then at the bottom, write "Authorized by: God" and place it somewhere you'll see it throughout the day.
Each time you see it, remind yourself: Your rest doesn't require justification. It has already been authorized by the Creator who designed you to need it.
Tomorrow, we'll explore what happens in the silence when we create space to listen.
Day 4
What God Whispers in Silence
Hearing God's Voice in the Quiet
We've explored Jesus's practice of withdrawal, creating margins in your day, and embracing divine permission to rest. Today, let's talk about one of the most precious gifts that emerges from these sacred pauses: hearing God's voice.
Today's Scripture:
"After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper." — 1 Kings 19:12
Elijah was looking for God in the dramatic—the wind, the earthquake, the fire. But God chose to speak in a gentle whisper. A still, small voice.
How often do we miss God's whispers because our lives are filled with constant noise? In our productivity-obsessed culture, silence feels uncomfortable, even threatening. Yet it's often in these quiet moments that God speaks most clearly.
Contemplative Practice for Today:
Find 3 minutes of complete silence. No music, no podcasts, no background noise if possible. If you need to sit in your car or bathroom to find this space, that's perfectly fine.
Simply sit with these questions:
• What have I been too busy to hear?
• What might God be whispering to my heart?
• What does my spirit need right now?
Don't force answers. Just create the space for listening.
When thoughts crowd in (and they will), gently return to your breath and these questions. This isn't about perfection, but about practice.
A Word of Encouragement:
If this practice feels difficult, you're not alone. Our minds resist stillness. But like any muscle, our ability to be present in silence grows stronger with practice. The God who speaks in gentle whispers is patient with your process.
Tomorrow, we'll conclude our series with "From Depletion to Direction," exploring how these practices can transform not just your present moment, but your path forward.
Day 5
From Depletion to Direction
Your Next Step in Sacred Rest
Over the past four days, we've journeyed together through Jesus's practice of withdrawal, creating margins in your overflowing life, embracing your holy permission slip for rest, and listening for God's whispers in the silence.
Today, we'll explore how these practices aren't just about surviving, they're about thriving in your divine purpose.
Today's Scripture:
"He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake." — Psalm 23:2-3
Notice the progression:
First comes rest ("lie down in green pastures"), then restoration ("refreshes my soul"), and finally direction ("guides me along right paths").
This is the pattern we so often miss. We cannot clearly discern our path forward when operating from a place of depletion. Rest is about recovery and revelation. It creates the conditions necessary for divine guidance.
Reflective Question:
What decisions or directions have you been trying to force while exhausted?
How might rest change your perspective?
Your Next Step:
As we conclude our 5 Days of Sacred Breathing Space, we invite you to consider one sustainable rest practice you can incorporate into your weekly rhythm. Not as another obligation, but as a sacred appointment with the One who designed you.
This could be:
• A tech-free Sabbath hour
• A morning prayer walk
• A weekly Scripture meditation
• A regular connection with supportive community
The journey from depletion to direction isn't a quick fix, it's a lifelong practice of returning to your divine design. And you don't have to walk this path alone.
